The Scope of Our Activities

A. DARUL IFTAH OR FATAWA DEPARTMENT

This department is involved in the issuing of legal Islamic Rulings (Fatawa) in all matters pertaining to Islamic Beliefs (Aqa'id), marriage, divorce, business practices, inheritance, Halaal/Haraam issues and on many other subjects that affect the Muslim community.

B. OUR EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

MADRESSA BARAKAATIYAH RADAWIYYAH:
Since the inception of the organisation from 1986 the madressa classes have grown from a few students to presently catering for approximately 120 children.

FULL-TIME HIFZFUL QURAN CLASS: These classes are held for full-time students from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. daily - Monday to Friday. Many of our students have already qualified as Huffaaz and some have travelled to Pakistan, India and Syria to complete the Aalims course.
PART-TIME HIFZUL QURAN: These classes are held for students who attend school in the mornings and take up Hifz of the Holy Quran after school.

AFTERNOON MADRESSA CLASSES: These classes are conducted by qualified madressa teachers. The madressa is regularly supervised and examinations are conducted on a quarterly basis.
OTHER SPECIAL CLASSES: Tajweed classes, classes for new Muslims and a basic Imaamat/Aalim course are offered to interested students and adults.

The Imam Ahmed Raza Academy embarked on a challenging project to compile madressa text books for students with the result that the following text-books were published:-

C. THE MUSTAPHA RAZA LIBRARY


Houses hundreds of Islamic books, local and international magazines, documents, and newspapers in English, Urdu, Arabic and Persian. There are also hundreds of books in the Urdu and Arabic language. All these books cover a very wide range of topics. The books are for reference and lending purposes. Membership is free.

D. THE AUDIO-TAPE LIBRARY


The Imam Ahmed Raza Academy also houses numerous audio tapes. These can be bought from the organisation at a very reasonable price. These tapes feature lectures by eminent Ulema, Naaths, Qiraat and Quranic Recitations (Complete 30 para sets).

E. THE SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT

Zakaah, in the form of groceries, received by the organisation is also distributed to the needy and deserving. We have also sponsored a few Haleem programmes over the years, and helped in distributing clothing and blankets to the poor and needy. The Academy has also supported a feeding scheme in which hundreds of school attending children have been fed.

F. MARRIAGE COUNSELLING SERVICES AND ADVICE CENTRE

The organisation has thus far provided free counselling to Muslim couples experiencing marital problems and is also serving as an advice centre in all fields. We are also liaising with professional services or social workers to handle complex problems.

G. LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENCES


Numerous correspondences, from both locally and from other countries, have been received and entered into with other organisations from both the religious and non-religious fields.

H. PRISON SOCIAL AND WELFARE SERVICES

We have provided for Muslim brothers in a number of prisons with regards to request for literature, hats, Musallas, stationery, Qurans, Du'a Kitabs, inquiries made of Halaal food, issuing "Islamic Burial" certificates, etc.

I. MONITORING AND SUPERVISING ISLAMIC ACTIVITIES

The organisation has also been called to monitor and supervise Islamic activities and madressa examinations by many organisations. We also issue authorisation letters to other organisations to collect funds.

J. HILAL/MOON SIGHTING COMMITTEE

The organisation has also played a crucial role in the sighting of the moon. It was for this purpose that a Hilal/Moon Sighting Committee has been functional from Durban, Ladysmith, Transvaal, East London, Cape Town.

K. REGULAR ISLAMIC PROGRAMMES


Regular Islamic meetings and programmes are often held at the organisation with the purposes of tackling important issues and to highlight specific Islamic events.

L. MEDIA WATCH

The organisation has received excellent press coverage from the media, namely Post Natal, Leader, Natal Mercury, Daily News, Sunday Tribune, Sunday Times, Al Qalam and Muslim Views. The Raza Academy has issued numerous press statements with regards to most major issues facing Muslims.

M. LECTURE TOURS

Organised within South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana and wherever Islam calls.

N. OVERSEAS GUESTS

Distinguished Ulema/scholars are brought by the organisation to South Africa on lecture tours. The organisations has also been blessed with the visit of many prominent Ulema from overseas.

O. RESEARCH, TRANSLATION & PUBLICATIONS DEPARTMENT

This department is involved in the research, translation, publication and distribution of Islamic literature to the public, both locally and internationally. To date, more than 1, 000, 000 (ONE MILLION) literature have been distributed free/sold of charge by the organisation.

P. ANNUAL DINNER

An annual Fund-Raising Dinner is being held in order to raise funds for the organisation.
